Rockhouse Canyon Desert Backpack
Rock House Canyon, located in the northwestern part of Anza Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, is a beautiful area to enjoy a day hike, or even an overnight camp outing. The starts off before you get our of your vehicle as you get to drive a rough, primitive road that only a 4x4 vehicle with high clearance can navigate. Once parked, set on your way towards the canyon's entrance, passing by the Hidden Spring. The spring was more like a wet spot when we were there during a drought. The canyon itself has a steady incline, and there are many plants and rocks to admire along the way. Exiting out of the canyon on the northern end, you get to navigate cross-country to find the old rock houses. Don't blink as you could pass one right by. As you can see from the photos below, there isn't a lot left, but you can definitely see the remains of a past human habitation. We stayed overnight just inside the canyons mouth at the northern end, huddling under a sparse rock overhang to cook our dinners and have a bit of evening conversation. All in all, I would highly recommend this trip! Below, enjoy a sampling of photos I took on the outing.
